25 ‘Not-Overplayed’ Songs for your First Dance
More and more in our business, we see engaged couples wanting to pick out unique, not-overplayed-to-death songs for their first dance at their wedding.
We ALSO see them not having any clue where to start, or even where to find some recommendations to get the creative thinking started.
So we’re all familiar with the usual suspects when it comes to First Dances- think ‘At Last’ by Etta James or ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ by Sinatra.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with these tunes at all (they’re classics for a reason!), but a lot of brides and grooms don’t want to take that route- they want a song that people will say, ‘Whoa, GREAT song choice!’ rather than ‘Eh, I just heard this song at my cousin Rico’s wedding just last week!’
I know I did- my wife and I wanted something cool and not cliche; something that the band didn’t play at every wedding (we picked ‘God Only Knows’ by the Beach Boys, by the way).
With that in mind, some members of the Uptown Down Band did some research and some introspective, sentimental soul-searching and put together a list of 25 ‘not-overplayed’ songs to get you started in picking out your First Dance, which you can download below.
These songs were taken from our experience as wedding entertainers and our vast encyclopedia of song knowledge. You’ll see a lot of genres represented, with different moods thrown in- from funny and lighthearted to serious and deep.
Either way, they’re all songs that we don’t hear played too often at weddings, but when they ARE played, people stop and say, ‘I forgot about this song!! What a great choice!’.
